Confessions of a Pizza Delivery Guy started out harmlessly enough. A simple question asked by Jeff to Justin, shortly after Justin began delivering pizza's for his father at Gregorios. "Any funny stories from deliveries yet?" Of course Justin had only been delivering for a couple days at the time so the answer was no, but that simple question, spawned what would come to be Confessions.
Confessions has actually been filmed twice. The original script was written for the most part by Jeff & Justin in 12th Grade study hall, with little bits and pieces thrown in by the rest of the group along the way. Filming began in the spring of 2004, much like Clerks, where they would film after Kevin Smiths shift would end at QuickStop, Justin would work until close at Gregorios, then be there for a few hours more filming with the rest of the group. Nearly every night the group would show up at about 10:30 and not leave until about 1 or 2 in the morning. Filming continued late into the summer, when the bulk fo the group would take off for college.
"To be honost with you it was one of the most stressful times of my life, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything...the bond we formed over those late nights will last forever"
- Jeff Sadden, Director / "Jimmy"
Due to everyone leaving for school, the actual ending to the film was put on hold, and was on hold for quite a while, to the point where the group almost just decided to forget it and move on. As 2005 began, the idea for WhoRangtheBell.com was brought about, and after Jeff & Justin agreed on the name, and started coming up with content ideas, Justin again brought up Confessions. It was then they decided to forget just filming the ending to the original, and re-write it with a fresh script and re-film it over the summer.
"To me, in all honosty this was the best idea we have ever had, and the most ambitous. Some day down the line, when Jeff is a big time film maker, I'd like to see it filmed the way it should be"
- Justin Benjamin, Producer / "Pizza Guy"
It was the same old story the second time around. Late nights of filming during the hot summer. This time however, the group was dealing with a deadline. Gregorios, was to close in early August. This put a big strain on the cast to get everything done in time, which they barely did. The last scene they needed to film at Gregorios was filmed 2 days before the closing.
Because of Gregorios closing, the group focused most of their efforts getting the Gregorios scenes done. When that was finished, and Gregorios shut its doors, they focused on the rest of the movie. The most difficult scene to film, was the fight scene that takes place at the end of the movie. It was shot in a field behind Derek Smith's backyard. It took nearly an entire day of filming to complete, and even still they didnt get eveything they had hoped for out of it, but we're happy with the result.
"What can I say, it was quite a project. Although it took two years to film, and I wasnt even casted until the second year. This film has earned every piece of good publicity its received..."
- Keith Lawrence, "Alex"
To this date, this second coming of the film still sits unfinished. An ending that everyone agreed to, has yet to come about, and again the feeling throughout the group is that this project will stay unfinished.
